Water shorts...
March 14, 2012

I am happy with the shorts. I will wear them while kayaking. They dry quickly and have a built in liner. I sometimes wear them instead of underwear...don't say gross...I wear them when I will have to change clothing while in a public setting...like a parking lot used by kayakers. This way I can take off my street clothes and be in shorts..not underwear, while I change into my paddling gear. I like the zippered pocket and adjustable belt. Bill

I bought these shorts to use on a rafting trip down the grand canyon. They held up well and dried quickly. They seem to be a little large but the cinch belt helps hold them up. I am very happy with the shorts.

Snake River Shorts
February 21, 2012

I had used a previous version of these for at least 5 years. These fit nice, have better pockets, and the belt works well thus far. I am not a fan of the integrated mesh underwear, but I cut those out to suit my particular taste. The length was great (11"). Anticipate using these for outdoor adventures: hiking, fishing, camping.

Not Up to the Task of River Running
August 04, 2011

The waist web is a facade, it quickly turn to very stretchy elastic and it is absolutely impossible to get enough tension on these so that they will not work their way down if you are doing anything but posing for a camera. For use on the river, I didn't even bother and just sent them back. DO NOT BUY.

Cons: Bad design, Low performance, Poor quality, can't tighten waist band enough

I recently bought the snake river shorts and have used them almost every day!I live at the lake and wow i wish i would have discovered these shorts a long time a go!They are perfect for all the otdoor activities that goes along with and around the lake. What i liked most about them was how quick they dry and how comfortable they are. They are true to size Im 6 feet and weight 180 and the large fits great. The other thing i love about these shorts is the length not too short just above the knee for me.And the Omni-shade Upf 50 SUN is a extra bonus u just dont find many swim shorts wqith that sun protection. Will for sure order more like today. Can't go wrong with this purchase!Waterluver

Snake River Shorts
July 25, 2011

I purchased another pair of these, some time ago. I had more success with the first pair. On the new pair, the belt elastic pulled free. If you like to wear the belt snug, these are probably not for you. They work great for hiking, in the stream, and also in the pool or ocean. They are very light and comfortable, but not as durable, as I would like. Their best use is as a bathing suit.

Great Shorts
July 19, 2011

For all around water/light hiking shorts these work great. The fit feels good but the length could be a little longer. I have worn them hiking when I knew I would be in and out of water and they worked out well. I also wear them around the house so I can get in and out of the pool without having to change to swimming trunks. I will buy another pair when these wear out.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Great value
Cons: length could be longer

new style snake river shorts
March 09, 2011

Ok guys, I have owned Colombia snake river shorts before. I've worn them while exercising, running, swimming, and cycling, the shorts just worked VERY well while doing every activity. So after about 6 years of abuse, I decided that it was time to get myself a couple of new pairs in different colors. To my suprise I did some research on line about the redesigned snake river shorts that Columbia now makes, and found that people were not giving them the best reviews. I took a chance an ordered 2 pair in black and these shorts are ALMOST as good as my first pairs of snake river shorts. Everything about the new design is comparable with the old design, except for one thing... the belt! It is true about what other reviews have said, the belt really is just a half nylon belt with flimsy elastic on the ends. If you like to tie your shorts (snug to very snug)... these shorts may not be the product for you. If you are ok with your shorts fitting (just snug) and not (python tight), then these shorts will be a good buy for you. For me, the shorts are not as great as the older versions, but are still a good buy. Just remember to buy your regular size... I like the 11 inch inseam.

Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value
Cons: flimsy belt

December 10, 2010

They are perfect shorts in term of confort and quality, the only issue with them is that they fit a little large, so if you are a M size like me, you may want to try a S.

Cons: not true to size

Love these shorts
December 01, 2010

I initially bought these shorts at a retail store and loved them so much much that I looked for them online and found them on this altrec.com site. These shorts are great for working out because of the inner mesh which stores my junk - ha!! There are also pockets and zippers to store your items. I bought two pairs on this site for a great price!

Great shorts
October 07, 2010

I bought these shorts for my husband. He had several pair of these type and brand (Columbia) that I would say are 5-6 years old. These are his shorts of choice as he is ready for any activity when he has these shorts on. We enjoy traveling and these shorts are comfortable, dry fast and look good in any situation. I purchased 5 pair of shorts in various colors, all were true to color and exactly as described on the web site. Thank you for a great buying experience as we live in a very rural area with no shopping.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Ease of use, Great value

The belt is a fatal flaw
September 12, 2010

So I was looking for a new pair of shorts I could swim in and it seemed these had everything i was looking for: pockets, long inseam, mesh liner. When I received them I tried them on and tightened the belt, but it never seemed to get tight. Eventually I tightened the belt enough to see the problem. What appears in the picture to be a nylon webbing belt is actually a six inch piece of webbing sewn to an elastic band that goes through the belt tunnel. So you can never get the belt tight. I carry my blackberry, wallet, and keys in my pockets and the elastic is just not enough to hold up the shorts. A real webbing belt would have made these perfect. Instead I had to return them. The search for the perfect swim short continues.

Great product and great service!

Love these shorts. I wear them all summer long, and all year long at the gym. This year's batch runs LARGE in the 11" inseam. I am usually a 36 Large, but had to change my order to Med in the longer 11" inseam.

great price for durable water shorts
July 26, 2010

Just purchased my second pair of these swim shorts. I liked the first pair so much I bought them in a different color. They are good quality, quick drying and nice looking. Fine to wear out of the water into a store or restaurant. They do run a bit large, so order one size down.

Columbia Men's Snake River Water Shorts - Love them!
July 08, 2010

Best shorts I ever purchased. Comfortable, thin, dry quickly, breathable, and loose! Inner mesh brief very good. Love shorts with mesh and don't have to wear cotton underwear on those hot hot summer days. Buying 3 more pairs.

GREAT shorts for HOT summers!

Sized a little on the "large" side, these shorts are great for hot humid summers!

Great shorts but beware of the size chart
June 27, 2010

My favorite shorts were the old PFG with the mesh brief. I normally wear a 36-38 so I ordered these shorts in large. I believe I would have loved these shorts except that they were extremely large, possibly an XXL.

John Dobel

Great shorts. Too large to wear.
June 22, 2010

Nice fabric and pocket arrangement. However, size chart says medium is 32 to 35 inch waist which is me. Even with the belt pulled tight, these are literally falling off, so I wasted my money.
